Sometimes we budget travellers look for somewhere just to shower and lay our head. Other times we look for a home where we can have home-like meals and motherly hospitality. You will get all this at Livingstone Backpackers, Zambia. This hostel is a real definition of a home away from home. Here’s how:
Beat the hot Zambian summer by dipping yourself in the swimming pool, so clean
Relax and go through your current read, otherwise, you can still borrow from their in-house library. If you are the tech-savvy type and wanna read online, Livingstone backpackers offers free and fast Wi-Fi, just for you. The same applies, if you are the type who runs away from the office before reading the last email, you still got a chance here to read and respond.
If you feel like you just wanna lie down and enjoy the hard to come by breeze during summer in Zambia, Livingstone Backpackers has a well-cushioned gazebo and beach chairs where you can sip your Mosi and relax. If you need more Mosis just look to your left at the beach bar and more will keep coming. You must pay in cash, though 😉
Eat mangoes straight from the trees, just like home, right? Keep in mind they are seasonal so you won’t find them all the time
Are you the adventurous type that likes doing stuff, test your rock climbing skills at Livingstone Backpackers, just under the mango tree.
Food? Get to the kitchen, make something or walk fast to the reception and the friendly staff will show you the menu, and prepare it. I personally recommend Nshima and Nkuku ( ugali with chicken). That is the same spot you will order for a hot home-made breakfast in the morning. If you prefer eating out, take a stroll and to the left hand side from the gate, just a few metres away is a mall with restaurants and Kwikspar supermarket for all your hot local meals
Time to sleep? Livingstone Backpackers has spacious dorm beds, clean and fitted with a mosquito net. You will get a free lullaby from the gazillion mosquitoes’ buzzing sounds only if you remember to be inside your net otherwise you will be playing Ta-e-kwondo all night with the mozzies. Zambia is a high malaria area so bring your mosquito repellent with you and thank me later 😉
And oh, you forgot to buy your souvenirs in those markets along Mosi-oa-Tunya road? Don’t walk in the dark, it can be dangerous, you know that? Livingstone Backpackers has a well stocked gift shop with everything Zambia.
Are we talking about a hostel here or a home or is this some several stars kind of hotel?
